What You'll Learn at DaddyDread Academy

DaddyDread Academy teaches the complete dreadlock production workflow — the same techniques our studio uses for every paid client set. Whether you want to learn to make dreadlocks from scratch, master dreadlock installation, or build a career as a loctician — every lesson is filmed step-by-step from real production work, not theory.

Dreadlock making: create professional-grade dreads using the crochet method — pure crochet braiding with 0.4–0.6 mm precision hooks. Smooth synthetic dreads (steam-finished), textured dreads (boiling-water-set), curly dreads (spiral henlon), and natural human hair dreadlocks using comb and crochet hook only — no heat, no glue, no wrapping.

Dreadlock installation training: braid-in method for temporary 1.5–2 month wear cycles, crochet-in installation for permanent extensions onto existing locs, cornrow and micro-braid base preparation, DE and SE format placement.

Head sectioning: precise grid mapping of the scalp — brick-lay pattern, triangle pattern, square pattern, density planning, and calculating how many dreads per section for even professional results.

Business and certification: pricing dreadlock services, finding clients, building a portfolio, and earning your Certificate of Completion. Buy individual lessons for specific skills or enroll in full courses for complete professional dreadlock training.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I learn to make dreadlocks online?

Yes. DaddyDread Academy courses are built for online self-paced learning: close-up camera angles showing every hand movement, slow-motion for complex techniques, and pause-and-rewind access. You practice on a mannequin head with fiber samples, then move to real installations when ready.

Do I need any prior experience to take these courses?

No experience needed for beginner-level courses. Each course clearly states its level — Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, or All Levels. If you have never touched a crochet hook or kanekalon fiber, start with the beginner making course.

What equipment do I need for the course?

Minimum starting kit: a mannequin head with a clamp, crochet hooks (0.4, 0.5, 0.6 mm), a rat tail comb, sectioning clips, and kanekalon or henlon fiber in 2-3 colors. Total investment is typically $30-$60. Each module lists exact materials before you begin.

Can I buy individual lessons instead of a full course?

Yes — both options are available. Buy a single lesson for a specific technique (head sectioning, boiling water treatment, braid-in installation), or enroll in the full course for complete professional training with all modules plus the certificate.

Do professional courses include a certificate?

Yes. Professional-level courses include a Certificate of Completion from DaddyDread Academy. This is a training certificate confirming you completed the curriculum — proof of education for your portfolio, salon wall, or social media.

How is this different from free YouTube tutorials?

Free tutorials cover fragments. Professional courses cover the complete workflow — from raw fiber to finished product. Systematic progression, close-up camera work, and curriculum designed to build skills in the right order. Students report producing professional-quality sets within weeks rather than months of self-learning.

How long do I have access after purchase?

Lifetime access. Once you purchase a course or individual lesson, it is yours forever. Watch on any device, rewatch as many times as you need. Future updates are included at no extra cost.

Do I need a cosmetology license to work as a loctician?

In most US states and countries — no. Dreadlock creation and extension installation typically falls outside cosmetology licensing. Regulations vary by jurisdiction — the business module covers how to check your local requirements and operate legally.

What types of dreadlocks does the Academy cover?

All four production categories: smooth synthetic (steam-finished), textured synthetic (boiling-water-set), curly synthetic (spiral henlon), and natural human hair (crochet hook and comb only). Plus installation for DE and SE formats, head sectioning, maintenance, repair, and business training.

Are the free lessons really free?

Absolutely. Free lessons are available directly on this page and on our YouTube channel — no sign-up, no email required. New free lessons are added regularly.
